Wi-Fi Alliance announced today, October 25, the launch of Wi-Fi standard Direct. The new standard allows direct connection of two wireless devices without the need for the existence of a network.
Wi-Fi Direct is mainly intended to allow the direct transfer of files between two wireless devices. The most interesting part is that only one of the devices must know Wi-Fi Direct, the other can connect to it. The Alliance has already certified several companies to use the new standard in future products. These include Intel, Atheros, Broadcom, Ralink and Realtek.
Wi-Fi Direct is a software that says Wi-Fi Alliance, will be offered, "sometime in the future" for download. This means that there can be as current devices, and they are compatible with Wi-Fi Direct. Upon connection, Wi-Fi Direct offers WPA2 encryption and authentication type.
